I Can Wait for 5 Years for a Good Role Says Actress Priyanka Kumar

Kannada actress Priyanka Kumar has earned recognition for making her mark in Tamil television. She shined in over 800 episodes of the serial Kaatrukenna Veli. In 2023, she made her debut as a lead actress in Kannada cinema with the film Bad Manners. Later, she appeared in films like Doora Theera Yaana and Rudra Garuda Purana. She is now set to appear in the upcoming film Seetha Rama Raju, directed by Keerthi (known for Andondittu Kaala), and starring Karthik Mahesh, who gained fame through Bigg Boss.

“I was selected for this film through an audition. Initially, director Keerthi narrated the story only up to the interval. Even after returning home, I kept wondering what would happen next. Later, I was called for a look test in a Bharatanatyam costume. They felt I suited the role of Seetha and selected me. I play the character Seetha. Director Keerthi has given me a wonderful role—one that has strong scope for performance, which is every actor’s dream. This film fulfills that dream for me. It’s not just a love story; my role has multiple layers. There’s a lot for me to learn, and I’m curious myself about how I will handle this responsibility. Shooting is expected to begin by the end of May or early June, and workshops will be conducted until then,” she says.

Art is life

“I love cinema. It has been my dream since childhood,” says Priyanka. “Every actor wants to do back-to-back films and stay visible to the audience. But I don’t want to just appear and disappear. If I take up such roles, people will forget me. Whether it takes two years or even five, I want to act in meaningful roles that stay in people’s hearts for a long time. That’s why, even if offers come from Kannada or other languages, I choose only good roles—even if it takes time,” she explains.

Priyanka, who trained in Bharatanatyam until 10th grade, is now relearning it for Seetha Rama Raju. She adds with a smile, “I’m also learning different art forms like Kathak, boxing, gym, yoga, and drawing.”
