A Historical Love Story: Prem’s New Film Directed by Ramesh Begar
Actor Prem, who has impressed audiences with diverse roles in over 25 films including Nenapirali, Jothe Jotheyali, Pallakki, Charminar, Shatru, Chowka, and Premam Poojyam, is now busy with films like Spark and Dhee Dhee Dikki. On the occasion of his 49th birthday (April 18), another new film has been announced. The special aspect of this project is that Prem will be seen in a historical role for the first time. The film is being directed by Ramesh Begar, known for narrating stories set amidst the natural beauty of the Malenadu region in films like Vaishampayana Teera and Jalapata. This will also be his first historical film.

Like his earlier works, this film too will include elements of environmental concern. Director Ramesh Begar shares, “Prem’s portions of the shoot have already been completed. We are confident that our film will fill the gap of historical films in Kannada cinema. In the coming days, we will release the teaser and announce the title, along with details about the rest of the cast and technicians.” The film uniquely connects history and the present, unfolding across two layers of time. Prem will be seen in a mass avatar in this story, which is based on a novel by Janagere Venkataramaiah. On the occasion of Prem’s birthday, his first-look poster was released, featuring him with an intense gaze, a shining signet ring on his hand, a large sword, windswept hair, a tripundra (sacred forehead mark), and a stylish beard—making for a striking appearance.

“This story explores how kings in the past embraced the environment and built their kingdoms. It unfolds in a hyperlinked narrative across two layers, moving between the past and present. In recent years, historical films have mostly been associated with action. We have gone beyond that, giving more importance to emotions, family drama, and artistic elements. Marathi cinema has produced many such films, often inspired by the filmmaking style of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I have followed a similar approach,” says director Ramesh Begar.
