Actress Akshitha Bopiah takes on a fierce avatar as “Chirakkal Devi” in Chenkol
Actress Akshitha Bopiah, who earlier appeared in glamorous and bold roles in films like “Kamal Sridevi” and “Flirt,” is now stepping into a completely new avatar. In her upcoming periodic film Chenkol, written, directed, and acted in by Santosh Aryan, she will be seen portraying a Devi (goddess). Akshitha plays the role of “Chirakkal Devi” in the film. Recently, the teaser along with her first-look poster was released. Expressing her excitement, Akshitha says, “This is the first time I am acting in a period film and also portraying a goddess.”

She adds, “Last year, my father passed away. In the same week, I got the offer for this film. When I learned it was a goddess role, I was thrilled. I felt it was my father’s blessing, as he always dreamed of seeing me become a big heroine. Even though the rituals after his passing were not yet complete, I gathered courage and joined the shoot in Chikkamagaluru. Being originally from Kodagu, I grew up hearing and witnessing the greatness of deities. So when I got the chance to play such a role, I couldn’t refuse.”

Observed strict discipline, avoided non-vegetarian food
Speaking about her role as “Chirakkal Devi,” Atha says, “I believe getting this role is both my father’s blessing and the goddess’s grace. My portions were mostly shot in the dense forests of Chikkamagaluru, often late at night or early morning. Portraying a goddess was a thrilling and unique experience. The role is more about intensity than dialogue.” “Before accepting the role, I performed a pooja (ritual). I also followed strict discipline and abstained from non-vegetarian food until the shoot was completed. While filming in the forest at night, I had several unexplained experiences. One night, we even witnessed a large fire, due to which the shoot was halted and resumed the next day. Aryan Santosh has put in a lot of effort in both acting and direction,” she says. Apart from Chenkol, Atha has also acted in another film titled Dharani, which is ready for release. After Ovels, she has signed another Tamil film, which is yet to be officially announced.
