Review: Everyone, at some point in life, faces struggles—moments when they feel broken, defeated, and as though the story of their life has reached a dead end. But in such times, even a small ray of hope, a gentle word, or a tiny assurance can breathe new life into the soul and lead them back to the path of living. The film ‘Sees Kaddi’, directed by Rathan Gangadhar, is a collection of such value-based stories.
The movie features four different stories, and in each of them, children take the lead roles. Each child has their own set of difficulties. Yet, none of them lose hope or enthusiasm for life. They don’t worry about what tomorrow holds or how it will unfold. Instead, each one strives in their own way to find peace and satisfaction.
When things don’t go as expected, or hardships arise, it’s natural for people to choose the easier or wrong path. However, these four stories teach that if one continues to work honestly and sincerely, the outcome may be even better than imagined.
One story revolves around a girl with no name. The film raises the question: how should society address her? In the end, it’s her work and her character that become her identity—teaching us that a person’s identity is their individuality.
In another story, a 16-year-old boy’s approach to watching movies draws attention. He goes to the theater, watches the movie, and then pays only what he feels it was worth. One story highlights the importance of a mother, while another portrays how hard work leads to achievement.
These four stories are presented in a unique manner and take place in different regions. Eventually, they all converge at one point. Each region’s lifestyle and dialect are appropriately used during narration. For instance, one story unfolds near Hosanagara, where the local dialect is effectively utilized.
In this film, the children themselves are the teachers and guides. Some of the ideas may seem unconventional, but as a film, a few scenes could have been more intense. With a tighter screenplay and more innovative visuals, the ideas could have had a greater impact. Some scenes had the potential to be more crisp and concise. With patience and an open mind, viewers can find satisfaction in the movie.
Actors playing Manji, Tofiq, Ravish, and the unnamed girl have convincingly brought their characters to life and proved their talent. While some songs are enjoyable, sound design and cinematography could have been better executed.
Despite these minor shortcomings, ‘Sees Kaddi’ is a heartwarming film. Those who wish to watch meaningful stories with family and children will certainly find this movie fulfilling.
